Objective
The purpose of the grants is to provide travel assistance to eligible members of ASCEPT to participate at the international congresses of toxicology.
Eligibility
Grants are open, in priority allocation, to the following members.
- Postdoctoral personnel with no access to other funds (no more than 6 years postdoctoral; or no more than 6 years post fellowship of an appropriate college for medical graduates; or no more than 6 years post award of a higher degree or bachelor degree in dentistry or veterinary science)
- Students who have just submitted their PhD
- Final year PhD students
- PhD students not in the final year of candidature
Applicants must be presenting a poster or oral presentation.
- A member will be eligible to receive only two travel IUPHAR / IUTOX / CPT grants. Normally, only one travel grant would be awarded during the period of PhD candidature.
- Applicants must be financial members of ASCEPT at the time of application, and preference will be given to applicants who have been members for at least two years prior to the application.
- Applicants must be a resident in Australia or New Zealand. Under normal circumstances, PhD students or post-doctoral personnel who allow their membership of ASCEPT to lapse after receipt of an ASCEPT travel grant will be ineligible for future travel support.
Funding
The amount of the grant will be determined by Council, subject to availability of funds, but will not exceed the cheapest return economy fare to the destination. [Applicants should note that fund allocation will, in general, be less for category 3 and 4 applicants than for category 1 and 2 applicants.] Grants will be decided, on merit, by a review panel comprising of the ASCEPT Treasurer, President, Secretary and Convenor of the new Investigators Working Party. ASCEPT Council reserves the right not to make any awards if applications are not of sufficient merit. It is a condition of receipt of a grant that a written report must be provided to ASCEPT Council within 8 weeks of return from overseas.
Applications must include:
- A brief curriculum vitae
- A copy of the abstract
- A draft itinerary of proposed travel, including quotation of cheapest fares
- A statement outlining the benefit of the grant to the applicant
- Travel funds available to the applicant from other sources
- Previous travel grants received from ASCEPT
For PhD students, a statement from their Head of Department confirming that the applicant has either submitted the PhD thesis or which indicates the year of candidature
Applicants will be called for via electronic messages to the ASCEPT membership with appropriate closing dates clearly indicated.

Confirmation of eligibility will occur as soon as possible. Payment will be made once proof of registration is forwarded to the Secretariat (address above).
Successful applicants are expected to provide a written report (of approximately one page) to Council on the outcomes of the activity. The report should be lodged with the Secretariat within 8 weeks of return to Australia or New Zealand.
