The Drug Information Association is pleased to announce a NEW SIAC: The Clinical Pharmacology SIAC
DIA is pleased to announce the formation of the new Special Interest Area Community (SIAC) with a focus on early phase clinical studies and general Clinical Pharmacology (CP). We would like to encourage all DIA members who share our focus to join the new CP SIAC.
The Clinical Pharmacology SIAC came about because many early phase Clinical Pharmacologists and other early phase clinicians attend the annual US and European DIA meetings in large part because the exhibitions have become an important meeting place for CROs and Pharmaceutical sponsors to discuss and plan for early phase clinical studies. However, there has historically been very little early phase one offerings in the DIA meeting programs so many of us found ourselves attending the exhibitions but not finding much of relevance in the meeting program. At the same time early phase clinicians especially have pressing and largely unaddressed needs for an information exchange and educational programs around a variety of issues many of which relate to best clinical practices.
To better represent the early phase community and general clinical pharmacology a group of us approached DIA to start a Clinical Pharmacology SIAC. DIA's SIACs provide a forum for volunteers to network and exchange information. SIACs also assist DIA in identifying the needs of their members when defining the programs for meetings, webinars, and journals.
With a lot of input from our global community we have created a mission statement for our new SIAC and we have a taken on a big job! Our goals are to serve Clinical Pharmacology and early phase community by holding forums, promoting educational programs at DIA events, writing articles for DIA and other publications, and hosting DIA Webinars. We look forward to working with DIA staff to create a web-site which we hope will serve as an important resource for vital information needed by our community.
