Medicinal Chemistry / Drug Discovery Symposium

Wednesday 16 November 2011 University of New South Wales, Sydney

We would like to invite you to a One-Day symposium on Wednesday 16th November between 9.30am and 3.00pm with a light lunch at 12.30 pm. We hope this symposium will foster research links between medicinal chemistry and pharmacology (drug discovery). This symposium is jointly organised by the School of Medical Sciences and School of Chemistry, University of New South Wales and the Drug Discovery Special Interest Group of the Australasian Society of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists (ASCEPT).

Call for Abstracts – deadline for submissions 7 November
We call for abstracts for 20 minute oral presentations (15 min lecture, 5 min question time) or poster presentations from students with the deadline for submissions Monday 7th November 2011.

• Abstracts should be no more than half-a-page and sent by e-mail as an attached file to Jodee Anning, j.anning@unsw.edu.au with the header of the email ‘MedChem Abstract’ with your name also noted.
• Please also note your preference for an oral or poster presentation. We will select two oral presentations from PhD students and a third by a junior postdoc.
• There will be prizes for the best oral presentation and poster.

2nd High Throughput Approaches in Drug Discovery Queensland Workshop

This is an Australasian Society of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists (ASCEPT) workshop hosted by the Drug Discovery Special Interest Group Queensland Branch.

Presentations are focused on discussing methods and equipment and will include example data of the application of high throughput approaches to drug discovery. Topics will include – development of 384 well calcium assays, non-calcium assays using FLIPR, high content imaging of cell death, cellular senescence and transcription factor activation, label free methods, high throughput mass spectrometry and high throughput methods in industry.

Up to 3 oral presentations are available to PhD and post-docs (contact Greg Monteith gregm@uq.edu.au before September 20th with a brief description of the proposed presentation). Presenters from outside Brisbane are encouraged.
