Professor Evan Begg
Evan Begg studied Medicine at the University of Auckland,
graduating in 1973. He joined the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at St
Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney in 1970 after completing his FRACP, Part I, at
Christchurch Hospital. In 1984 he was appointed Senior Lecturer of Clinical
Pharmacology at University of Otago, Christchurch and was promoted to Associate
Professor in 1995 and Professor in 2002. During this time he also completed his
M.D. He has had a long-term involvement with the British Journal of Clinical
Pharmacology, eulminating in becoming the first Australasian Editor (2001 –
present).
Evan Begg’s basic research interests have been in the area of drugs and breast milk, aminoglycosides and pharmacogenetics. He has published more than 160 refereed papers and book chapters, and has published a book, Instant Clinical Pharmacology, that has been translated into Russian and Italian, and is about to appear in its 2nd Edition. In 2004, he was the ASCEPT lecturer, and in 2007 was awarded a Gold Medal for teaching at the University of Otago - Christchurch.
