ASCEPT International Travel Awards

Objective
The purpose of the ASCEPT International Travel Awards is to assist eligible members to:

  • Attend international conferences
  • Attend short courses and workshops
  • Work for short periods (<2 months) in overseas institutes (eg to learn new techniques etc).

Eligibility

  • Grants are open to members who are no more than 6 years postdoctoral; or no more than 6 years post fellowship of an appropriate college for medical graduates; or no more than 6 years post award of a higher degree or bachelor degree in dentistry or veterinary science and a PhD Student is eligible for 1 ASCEPT International Travel Award in their candidature and must be presenting, and have presented at, at least 1 ASCEPT Annual Scientific Meeting. PhD students may be eligible for a second travel grant to IUTOX/IUPHAR/CPT.
  • The Awards are not open to previous recipients of ASCEPT Postdoctoral Travel Grants or ASCEPT International Travel Awards. However, the award is available to previous recipients of no more than on IUPHAR/IUTOX/CPT Travel grant.
  • Applicants must be financial members of ASCEPT at the time of application and have been a member for at least two full calendar years.
  • Applicants must be a resident in Australia or New Zealand.

Funding
Council will determine the amount of the grant, subject to availability of funds, but will not exceed the cheapest return economy fare to the destination to a maximum of $3,000. Normally financial assistance will be granted for travel by the most economical, convenient means.  Access to other travel funds will be taken into consideration when deciding the final amount awarded.

ASCEPT Council reserves the right not to make any awards if applications are not of sufficient merit.

Grants will be decided, on merit, by a review panel comprising of the ASCEPT Treasurer, President, Secretary and the convenor of the New Investigator’s Working Party.

Applications
Applications must include the following:- The purpose of the application, including a statement of how the activity will benefit the applicant, a draft itinerary of the proposed travel, including a quotation for airfares etc, a copy of the abstract, where the applicant is attending a conference and a brief Curriculum Vitae

Closing Dates for the Receipt of Applications
For travel commencing during 1 April - 31 October - Closing date: 28 February - Notification: 31 March

For travel commencing during 1 November - 31 March - Closing date: 31
August - Notification: 15 September

Confirmation of eligibility will occur as soon as possible. Payment will be made once proof of registration is forwarded to the Secretariat.

Successful applicants are expected to provide a written report (of approximately one page) to Council on the outcomes of the activity. The report should be lodged with the Secretariat within 8 weeks of return to Australia or New Zealand.

Successful applicants are encouraged to acknowledge ASCEPT support wherever practical (eg on Poster presentations).

Retrospective applications will NOT be considered
